The original 1990 adaptation of Roald Dahl’s “The Witches” is the stuff of childhood trauma, but for us adult actressexuals, it’s 90 minutes of queen, icon and star Anjelica Huston at her grand dame greatest, plus nuanced Jim Henson puppets, Mr. Bean, Brenda losing her Blethyns, Mai Zetterling’s truly great grandma, and bowls of delicious cress soup, preferably with bread. We discuss the scariest witch in the movie, our feelings on the remake, the perils of pairing fruit and chocolate, and our qualms with the ending (despite the wacky final line and the mere presence of Jane Horrocks in a Mercedes coupe!).
