Megan learned the hard way to be her own best advocate for both birth and breastfeeding, but she also learned that finding the right support is critical to meeting your birthing and baby feeding goals.Although Megan wanted to have an intervention free birth, her first baby was born via urgent c-section while she was under general anesthesia. She did not see her daughter until 2 hours after she was born. Her intuition and ability to feel confident as a mother was almost immediately put to the test when a pediatrician wanted her to start supplementing with formula just days after the birth because her daughter had not yet returned to birth weight. After learning all she could, she chose to have a VBAC at home under the care of a Certified Nurse Midwife when her second daughter was born. She focused on preparing for the homebirth and did not expect breastfeeding to be challenging given the struggles she overcame with her first baby and the fact that she breastfeed for years. It was surprising to be faced with a true problem of slow weight gain that needed to be addressed with the help of an IBCLC.Topics discussed in this episode include:-c-sections-perceived slow weight gain-VBAC and homebirth-true low weight gain-Triple feeding-trusting your intuitionTo get individualized lactation support from me, Lo, go here.To Follow Megan on IG and be supported by her, go to Www.Instagram.com/nofearhomebirthTo hear my story of a redemptive homebirth, listen to me on the Doing it At Home Podcast Head to Apple Podcasts or Spotify for more episodes!Join The Milk Making Minutes Facebook Group to talk about the structural barriers that make breastfeeding so difficult and work together to chip away at each one.To buy books about pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and parenting, and to support the show while doing it, go to my bookshop!Follow me on IG @milkmakingminutespodcast to laugh about breastfeeding and to see photos of guests!
