EP:183 Kathleen Reily Uses Her Story to Help Others

Today I work as a Chronic Anxiety Coach, teaching people how to rewire constant worry, fear, and anxiety in the brain. I would like to start from the beginning.

I was born with a cleft lip and palate and went through more than seventeen corrective and cosmetic surgeries as a result.

Throughout my early childhood, I went through more than eight operations before the age of ten. In the nineties, we knew so little about early childhood hospital trauma, and how damaging it can be.

When a young child goes into surgery without any understanding of what is really happening, the child will be put under while in a state of panic and fear. While the body is unable to escape the danger, all of this trauma stays locked the body’s memory.

Later this trauma can manifests in his or her twenties as severe anxiety and panic. This was my story. 

 

In addition to being seen by others as abnormal, different, sometimes deformed because of my cleft lip and palate. I also had visual tracking challenges as well, which created significant issues not only in the classroom but also in terms of my communication with others as I got older.

Eventually, I treated my strabismus by having corrective surgery and going through years of behavioral optometry.

Through neuroplasticity, I had retrained my brain to process information from the eye that had turned inward when I two and a half years old.

After doing so I corrected my visual tracking challenges and began to excel in the classroom. While I was recovering from my vision surgery I had to be i the dark for several days.

As a result, I went inward, and that is when I decided I would use my knowledge of neural plasticity and begin healing my trauma and chronic anxiety.

The process was so effective, I decided to go through a few certification programs, and designed an eight-week course that I now teach to others. This program is incredibly effective and has rewired many highly anxious and fearful minds.
