The Motivation Congregation: The #1 Torah & Mussar Podcast
Religion & Spirituality:Judaism
The Torah teaches us many things about life, and laziness is no exception. In proverbs 12:24, we read, "Diligent hands will rule, but laziness ends in forced labor." This verse reminds us that hard work and diligence always pay off, while laziness leads to difficulty. The Torah also warns us of the dangers of procrastination in Ecclesiastes 4:5, which states, "The lazy man does not roast his game, But the diligent man prizes his possessions." This verse encourages us to value our time and be productive with it. In addition to these teachings, the Torah provides practical advice on how to overcome laziness. For example, Deuteronomy 6:7 tells us to "Impress them upon your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up". This verse encourages us to keep our minds active by studying scripture and engaging in other productive pursuits while avoiding the temptation of slothfulness. It also emphasizes the importance of teaching our children these values so they can learn how to be productive members of society. Ultimately, the Torah provides a clear message on how to end laziness: hard work, diligence, wisdom, and setting an excellent example for others will all lead us away from idleness towards success and happiness. By following these teachings, we can ensure that laziness does not hinder us from achieving our goals. In this shiur, we explore advice from torah giants who have overcome the human body's innate, inborn sluggish nature.
