Interviews With "The Menu" Writers Seth Reiss, Will Tracy, Director Mark Mylod & Star Hong Chau
"The Menu" had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and is now playing in theaters from Searchlight Pictures. The film stars an ensemble cast of characters played by Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, Janet McTeer, Judith Light, and John Leguizamo, among others, who dine at the fine cuisine restaurant of world-renowned chef Julian Slowik, played by Ralph Fiennes. The evening takes a deadly turn for the worse, and the mind games from Chef and his right-hand woman, Elsa, played by Hong Chau, continue in a torturous evening for the guests. Hong Chau was kind enough to spend some time talking with me about her work in the film along with what the last year has been like, also working on Darren Aronofsky's "The Whale" and Kelly Reichardt's "Showing Up." I also had the pleasure of speaking with the screenwriters Seth Reiss and Will Tracy, plus director Mark Mylod. Each conversation reveals another layer to the brilliant inner workings of what makes "The Menu" such a full-course meal, but please be warned, SPOILERS are ahead. Enjoy!
