Move Your Mind with Nick Bracks
Education:Self-Improvement
This is the Eighth episode of our Move Your Mind limited construction series. We will be interviewing a range of people from the industry and having conversations around the state of mental health in the industry.
Australia loses one construction worker every two days to suicide & more than 20% of the construction industry are shown to have had a mental health condition. These figures are made even more compelling as it is an industry that employs 10% of the working population. We feel this podcast will play an important role in creating conversations and awareness.
Martin Smith started his earlier career in construction & retrained and worked in the Human Services sector as a Registered Social Worker before moving into Health, Safety and Environment and then back into construction 18 years ago. Along the way he has operated at senior and executive levels in Health, Safety, Environment and Sustainability as both a contractor, client and owner/operator. He is currently the Group General Manager for Health, Sustainability and Climate with the John Holland Group. Over his 30+ year career in Health, Safety and Environment he has worked across multiple sectors including resources, energy, engineering, construction, and transport. Martin is a passionate advocate for improving mental health outcomes in the building and construction industry and is driving the health and wellbeing agenda in John Holland.
