Ira has written four books - Daughters of the Sun: Empresses, Queens and Begums of the Mughal Empire, Akbar: The Great Mughal : the Definitive Biography, Heroines: Powerful Indian Women of Myth & History, and her new upcoming book 'Song of Draupadi'.
Cyrus and Ira talk about Song of Draupadi, what it's about, how it's a book that talks about some of the amazing and powerful women from the Mahabharat, how Mahabharat is basically the most violent property dispute ever, and lots more. Ira talks about how she got into writing, wanting to provide her daughters with stories of some amazing inspiring women from history and mythology, why very few such stories existed or had survived over the years, and more. Cyrus and Ira also discuss feminism among women in history, the denial and erasure of the women and their accomplishments throughout the ages, how versions of women are often deity-ized and white washed in history, Mughal women, myths about Akbar, people wanting to erase Akbar from history, and lots lots more.
