1:08 – As our Alameda County Sheriff’s office prepares to transition to a newly elected chief officer, another person – Jose Piña Cardenas – has died as a result of injuries sustained at the jail administered by the Sheriff – Santa Rita County Jail. We’re joined by Adante Pointer (@adanteesq), a civil rights attorney representing Lydia Piña, Jose’s mother, as well as Jose Bernal (@jose_bernal), Organizing Director at the Ella Baker Center which is advocating on behalf of the family.

Christopher Soto is a Los Angeles-based poet, co-founder of the Undocu-poets campaign and of Writers for Migrant Justice.
