6.9 Feminism, Equality and Navigating Patriarchal Culture with Dr Sarah Rutherford (aka Caggie’s mum!)
Dr. Sarah Rutherford is a consultant, writer, and speaker with an academic background in organisational culture. She is the author of the book Women’s Work Men’s Cultures: Overcoming Resistance and Changing Organizational Cultures (Palgrave Macmillan).
She also happens to be Caggie’s mum!
In this conversation, Sarah explains a brief history of feminism and how progress in equality isn’t always linear; we only have to look at what is happening in the world today to see how quickly women’s rights can be taken away and why they have to continue to be fought for. She shares her insights on culture in the workplace, how women’s experiences often differ vastly to men’s, and the reasons why.
They also discuss the stigma around women helping women, which Caggie refers to as the “female wound” and this feeling we often have that there isn’t room for all of us to succeed.
This is also an interesting insight into Caggie’s personal life, as it’s her first time having a family member on the show!
