Iran hasn’t always been a conflict zone. 1970s Iran resembled most Western countries. But in 1979, the government changed from a monarchy to a theocracy, causing the mostly secular public to be ruled by radical Muslims. Now the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini has sparked country-wide protests, with Gen Z at the forefront.
