How often does the media provide positive and empowering information about how we can truly improve our health? It seems like we are only fed the bad stuff.
What a lot of people don’t realize is that tuning into fear-provoking media affects the endocrine system in our body, elevating cortisol levels and putting us into a state of “fight or flight.” When this happens, the body shuts down the immune system, digestive functioning, and higher order cognitive functioning in order to conserve energy to deal with the perceived threat.
Fear-based media has the power to escalate our stress response, even if no such threat actually exists! This is because our belief in the “imaginary killer,” or whatever fearful narrative we are being fed, is all that is needed to create stress and dysfunction in the body. When you tune into fear-provoking narratives and beliefs on a habitual basis, this creates chronic stress in the body that will have a negative impact on your health.
One of the most important toxins to avoid comes in the form of mental stress, based on what we choose to expose ourselves to, focus on, and think about. This is the power of our mind, and this is why it is so important to get rid of the “stinkin’ thinkin” that’s perpetuated by most news media and replace it with thoughts and beliefs that are positive, uplifting, and empowering.
