Book II : Chapter XII - Dana Janssen aka Dana Buoy of Akron/Family, The Angels of Light,
Tonight, we offer you Dana Janssen, who , with the help of Akron/Family, shook up the Indie Rock scene of the early oughts with an unhinged melange of folk, noise, and experimental rock. He'd gone on to Young God Records label mates (and label founder Micheal Gira's) Swans extension The Angels of Light.
Dana married and relocate tp Portland, where, amid a home festooned with house plants, composed (the inferred) percussion to Mort Garson's cult electronic album that dropped in the year of my birth, !976. That record, Mother Earth's Plantasia, never reached worldwide acclaim, but made a massive dent in the underground. With a sketch of percussion, Dana allowed his surroundings to guide him. This is the zygote of Experiments In Plant Based Music Vol.1.
We dig into the NYC of the early 2000s, the influence of Bob Dylan, early Dead, Sonic Youth, Swans, Tortoise... a segue into horror soundtracks, the trappings of being from the Eastern Pennsylvania area... An uplifting episode with a gem of a human.
