Law Enforcement Life Coach / Sometimes Heroes Need Help Podcast
Health & Fitness:Mental Health
Jason Schechterle / Subject of the Burning Shield / Wicked Awesome Individual
I have had some amazing guests on my podcast this past year and I'm blessed and thankful for each and every one of them. This week I was honored to sit down with Jason Schechterle, former police officer, husband, father, friend and a inspirational super hero for anyone wanting to know how you get up after being knocked down. I included our conversation from start to finish, so much insight and relatability. I know you will love this conversation as much as I did, sit back and give it a listen as I discuss life with Jason, Until next week, stay safe and healthy, John

══ DETERMINATION ══
The full strength of the human spirit often lies in hiding until presented with something monumental. Life presented me with that something in March 2001, when a taxi going 115 miles per hour rear ended me, and my patrol car exploded, leaving me with burns on over 40% of my body. Some call me the unluckiest person alive, but I beg to differ. Sometimes the most beautiful, inspirational changes will disguise themselves as utter devastation.
My survival is a miracle. Thanks to the amazing response of the firefighters and those who rescued me within 90 seconds of the crash, and the doctors that helped me at the hospital, I survived. I became like a phoenix rising from the ashes.
My journey hasn’t been easy. After over 50 surgeries, I don’t quite look the same as before. Now, I’m shinier and ageless! Ha! I bet you didn’t see that one coming! Btw, having a good sense of humor has been an instrumental tool in my recovery toolbox. All joking aside, it was rough, but I’m truly grateful I had the support of those closest to me: My families (the one I was born into, my wife and children, and the ones in Blue) and my friends.
Believe it or not, I went back to work a bit over 18 months later. My love for my profession as a Phoenix Police Officer was very strong, and I’m proud to have achieved my dream of becoming a Homicide Detective.
In 2006, I took a sabbatical. I perfected my golf swing 😁 and got really good at being a dad. After that, I bought and managed a non-emergency transportation company. I had an AHA! moment after a speech I gave in 2010, when a NY firefighter told me that I changed his life that day. After that, I sold my company and became a professional speaker…and the rest is history.
I absolutely love serving others and changing lives. I always want to leave the day better than how I found it. I love serving on Boards of Directors (I’ve served on 6), working with small groups, and 1-on1.
