Alex Ovechkin scores his 800th on a hat trick in Chicago. An historic night for Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals

In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the historic night for Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals as he scores 798, 799 and 800 against the Chicago Blackhawks Tuesday night against the Chicago BlackHawks. On the evening Alex said:

“As soon as it happen(ed), kind of relief,” Ovechkin said of his hat trick tally. “Kind of happiness and enjoying it.”

“It’s a big number. It’s the best company anyone can imagine since you start playing hockey to be that category — 800. I’m the third person who ever scored that many goals. Without my teammates, without organization, fans, my family, I would never get that number.”

His teammates said:

"Holy bleep the great 800!!!!!!!! Legend," Strome wrote with a goat emoji (representative of the Greatest Of All Time) in his Instagram story.

Goal 800 was orchestrated by Anthony Mantha. He said:

"I could have shot it, but then I saw someone coming backdoor with a right-handed stick. You don't assume it's Ovi just because we're not playing together," Mantha explained. "But it was after the change. And he ended up putting it in the back of the net."

Many of Alex's goals were assisted by Nick Backstrom. Backstrom wasn't on the ice, but was in the locker room and said:

"Big congrats to Ovi for reaching 800 goals. What a milestone!" he wrote. "So proud of you friend. #GR800."
