Love, hey. It's a powerful thing. It's a terrifying thing. It's a wonderful thing. It's an exhilarating thing. It can make us feel like kids again. It can see us move mountains. It can turn even the darkest of days bright. It can give us the strength to endure and overcome. And... unfortunately it can blind us, bend us and twist us into a world and circumstance we never saw coming.
This episode is a conversation with a good friend of mine who for the sake of this episode we shall refer to as Anna.
Anna was (and is) strong and courageous. Anna fell in love. Anna got married. Anna had a family. And Anna found herself eventually wake up to the realisation that she was married to a partner with narcissistic personality disorder and the life she had created had somewhere along the line evolved into an emotionally and financially abusive prison, on a fast-paced downward trajectory.
We talk about her decision to leave, and the experience of the then and now. The impact that these types of relationships have on individuals and families in the short and the long term. The reality that too many people find themselves isolated in the middle of what is supposed to be their most connected, loving and supportive relationship in their lifetime.
