Former Williams F1 Team Manager Dickie Stanford - Nerdy V10s Special Part 3
In this episode of Nerdy V10s, James P is joined by James M as they interview former Williams F1 Team Manager Dickie Stanford.
Dickie worked in F1 various roles for Williams, including running the test team, as chief Mechanic to Nigel Mansell, and Race Team Manager. A career spanning 30 years, Dickie has seen his team evolve and enjoy much success in its heyday.
We ask Dickie how Williams coped and moved on from the devastating championship loss in 1986, and how Nigel Mansell fought back from adversity. We also hear the details of working with Senna during his tragically short tenure in 1994.
Dickie opens up on Monza 1988. Williams driver Jean-Louis Schlesser collided with McLaren's Ayrton Senna, preventing McLaren from winning all races that season. Listen in as we hear a poignant story from the 2003 Monaco Grand Prix, and how much it really meant to the team to finally secure a win at the principality.
Dickie tells us the day-to-day of his amazing new career at United Autosports, maintaining McLaren Team Principal Zak Brown's personal F1 collection. We hear the variety of cars he looks after, as well as which one is his favourite.
