Was Peter Laviolette's team meeting earlier this month what's behind the Washington Capitals latest winning streak?
In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talk about Peter Laviolette's meeting with the Caps team. Peter Laviolette told Capitals locker room leaders in early December to instill a sense of urgency after their poor start. “We cannot afford a December that looks like November and October. Playing .500 hockey will be the death of us.” Is that is what's behind their latest winning streak?
Later in the show Dan talk about injured Capitals players that are heading towards a return to the lineup. Nick Backstrom is currently under Covid-19 protocol but Laviolette said “I think this will be quick. I think he’s been on the ice so long that he’ll get back out here to get his legs under him. Right back up to speed as soon as he can be for not having played in quite a while."
Tom Wilson is also nearing a return to the lineup Peter Laviolette said Tom Wilson, who has been practicing in a regular jersey, is “close.” He won’t suit up tomorrow against the Senators but “anytime somebody comes out of that (non-contact) jersey I feel like they’re close.”
Dan also talks about Carl Hagelin, TJ Oshie and Martin Fehevary as they are working on the ice and gearing up for a return at some point in the future.
