This week on #TubtaNabadda, our guests are Hawa Jama, Deputy Chair of the National Disability Agency and Abdifith Kalgacal, a radio journalist in Mogadishu, talk about life and challenges faced by the visually impaired in Somalia ahead of World Braille Day.
Braille is a tactile representation of alphabetic and numerical symbols using six dots to represent each letter and number, and even musical, mathematical and scientific symbols. Braille is used by blind and partially sighted people to read the same books and periodicals as those printed in a visual font.
In the programme, Ms. Jama, shares her early life experiences as a blind person and the difficulties she encountered while accessing public services.
Our second guest, Mr. Kalgacal, talks about access for the visually impaired to education and digital applications, such as those used by banks.
The programme is presented in Somali by Ali Gutale and Faiza Abdi.
