Hey everybody – welcome to Episode # 66 of The Troubadour Podcast. We’ve got a great interview for you today. Anyone who knows anything about the greatest guitar players to ever live are familiar with names in the Rock wold like Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and Albert Lee. If you move on over to the Country Genre names like Vince Gill, Brent Mason, Steve Wariner and Ricky Skaggs come to mind. Our guest on today’s episode has played with ever single one of those guys I’ve just listed as well as other notable guitar freaks like Joe Bonamassa, Ted Nugent and Sammy Hagar.
Johnny Hiland was born in the state of Maine with an eye condition called Nystagmus making him legally blind from birth. However, that disability hasn’t stopped Johnny from becoming one the world’s best guitar players alive today. Moving to Nashville in the mid-90s, Johnny quickly gained a reputation around music city as a beast with a guitar in his hands.
While he can proficiently play 22 different instruments, Johnny’s simply an expert at “Chicken Pickin’” on his Johnny Hiland JH6 signature guitar made by Keisel Custom Guitars.
While this episode featuring Johnny is a bit of a departure from the Texas Country / Red Dirt vein we are usually deep within in this podcast, towards the end of the interview you’ll hear Johnny give major props to the music coming out of the Texas / Red Dirt Scene and even mentions one of my biggest inspirations, Pat Green by name.
So, here we go folks. Episode #66 of The Troubadour Podcast featuring one the best guitar players and nicest guys to ever walk God’s earth, Mr. Johnny Hiland.
