The Capitals fall to the Senators in overtime. Erik Gustafsson's breakout year. Martin Feherevary in vs Montreal?
In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the Capitals loss to the Ottawa Senators. The Senators took advantage of costly Capitals turnovers and capitalized on them. The Capitals had goals from Ovechkin, Strome and Kuznetsov. The defeat also came just two days after one of their best 60-minute efforts of the season, a 4-0 blanking of the Rangers in New York.
In the next segment Dan talks about the breakout season of Erik Gustafsson's breakout season. Erik Gustafsson recorded an assist on Thursday against the Ottawa Senators, extending his point streak to six games (5g, 5a). Gustafsson's current point streak is the second-longest of his career and is two games shy of his career long eight-game point streak, accomplished with the Chicago Blackhawks from Dec. 27, 2018 to Jan. 12, 2019 (0g, 11a). Gustafsson's streak began on Dec. 17 versus Toronto when he recorded his first career hat trick in the Capitals' 5-2 win. Only San Jose's Erik Karlsson (1g-11a-12p) has more points among NHL defensemen since Dec. 17.
In the last segment Dan talks about the return of Martin Feherevary. Fehervary has missed the last 12 games with an upper-body injury he suffered back on Dec. 3 against the Calgary Flames following a hard hit along the boards from Milan Lucic.
