Auckland Blues defence coach Craig McGrath on Schmidt's essays, manipulating attacks, and Super Rugby semi
Gavan Casey and Eoin Toolan are joined by Blues defence coach Craig McGrath, who is in preparation for a Super Rugby semi-final versus the Brumbies this Saturday morning.
Craig tells the lads how he began his coaching career in Drogheda with Boyne RFC, and also speaks of his first encounter with his current Blues colleague Joe Schmidt who coached him in Auckland in the mid '00s. He speaks of his philosophy, of the Blues' group-contribution ideas for their own defence, and how they intend to stop Dan McKellar's Brumbies this weekend.
He also looks ahead to Ireland's tour of New Zealand in the summer, and has a clear answer as to which Irish player he would sign for the Blues if given the opportunity
