LSU football returns one key starter, loses one budding star
The college football transfer portal and the NFL Draft can afford programs so many wonderful opportunities to build rosters and reputations. However, the downside is that both can take talent away from your roster just as easily. LSU football fell victim to, and benefitted from, both of those things in the same day as true freshman linebacker Demario Tolan announced that he will enter the transfer portal and punter Jay Bramblett will return for the 2023 season.
Tolan played in twelve games this season, sidelined only in the Citrus Bowl and against Florida State as he recovered from back surgery. Tolan recorded ten sacks this season but proved to be a competitor in practice that pushed other players to work and play harder. Brian Kelly mentioned several times throughout the season how impressed he was with Tolan's development. With his departure, the LSU Tigers return Harold Perkins and West Weeks at that position and welcome in Whit Weeks (West's brother) and Christian Brathwaite in the 2023 recruiting class.
Bramblett, on the other hand, will return to LSU as he said "this year was the most fun I’ve ever had playing the game". His return is significant because LSU special teams struggled mightily this season and Bramblett was one of the few strong elements of special teams in 2022. His leadership, talent, and belief in the program are invaluable attributes to the 2023 team.
