E66: Tree Scouting, Planting, and Hunting the Right Tree During Deer Season (feat. Lindsay Thomas Jr. of the Quality Deer Management Association)
Plant a Tree for your tomorrow. Scout some trees for this upcoming season!
Mast crops are a huge fall food source for deer. If you arent taking in to consideration when doing your scouting then you may be missing out on a huge tool for figuring out how the Whitetails use the property you hunt. Trees also mean different types of browse as well as cover at different times of the year. We wanted to consult the experts on whitetail habitat and food sources, so we called Lindsay Thomas Jr. of the QDMA. Lindsay had great info on how to tell which acorns the deer will be hitting this fall, as well as how to find those overlooked types of mast that whitetails crave! He also taught us a ton about what and how to plant trees on your own property and how to maximize thier potential for hunting. Lindsay is a cool dude with a smooth southern voice that we really enjoyed our conversation with and I bet you will too.
