With the longest continuous occupation in the world, the movement for justice in Israel/Palestine and Palestinian liberation has been a strong voice for decades. The events of the early summer - the evictions in Sheikh Jarrah and the brutal violence inflicted on the people of Gaza seems to have changed the paradigm in North America, with millions pouring into the streets in solidarity with Palestinians and demanding a change to the brutal and dehumanizing occupation. We're joined by Aaron Lakoff of Independent Jewish Voices, and Dalia Al-Masri of the Palestinian Youth Movement to discuss the shifting landscape, the Canadian response, and what we can do to support a just resolution in the region.

About Independent Jewish Voices
We are a group of Jews in Canada from diverse backgrounds, occupations and affiliations who share a strong commitment to social justice and universal human rights. We come together in the belief that the broad spectrum of opinion among the Jewish population of this country is not reflected by those institutions that claim to represent Jewish communities as a whole. We further believe that individuals and groups within all communities should feel free to express their views on any issue of public concern without incurring accusations of disloyalty.
We have therefore resolved to promote the expression of alternative Jewish voices, particularly in respect of the grave situation in the Middle East, which threatens the future of Palestinians and Israelis as well as the stability of the whole region.
About Palestinian Youth Movement
The Palestinian Youth Movement (“PYM”) is a transnational, independent, grassroots movement of young Palestinians in Palestine and in exile worldwide as a result of the ongoing Zionist colonization and occupation of our homeland. Our belonging to Palestine and our aspirations for justice and liberation motivate us to assume an active role as a young generation in our national struggle for the liberation of our homeland and people. Irrespective of our different political, cultural and social backgrounds, we strive to revive a tradition of pluralistic commitment toward our cause to ensure a better future, characterized by freedom and justice on a social and political level, for ourselves and subsequent generations.
