New Episode alert! In honor of last week’s Golden Globes, Gavin and I are discussing the 1991 straight to video action extravaganza, ‘Breathing Fire’! Produced and co-written by legendary Kung Fu star Tan Tao Liang, aka Flash Legs Tan, this American remake of ‘Shaolin Deadly Kicks’ features some insanely fun, fast paced, frenetic fight scenes that almost seem out of place by how good they are! Featuring a cast of stellar martial artists, including genre favorite Bolo Young and 2x World Kickboxing champion Jerry “Golden Boy” Trimble, it is headlined by one of the most talented individuals in Hollywood, one of the greatest child actors of all time, and now Golden Globe winning actor- Jonathan Ke Huy Quan. Listen in as we deep dive into why we love this movie so much, how it manages to rise above many of its shortcomings, and why it might be one of the greatest straight to video movies of all time! Both Gavin and I want to express how happy we are for Ke Huy Quan’s win, how excited we are about his return to Hollywood, and how although we could watch him in straight acting roles and be 100% entertained, we also wouldn’t mind if he decided to do a straight up martial arts film again either! :-) You can listen to The Martial Arts Mania Podcast on Soundcloud, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and iHeart Podcasts!
