How LSU football has used the transfer portal to upgrade one of the most important positions
LSU football loses one of its most important players and key leaders in edge rusher BJ Ojulari as he prepares for the NFL Draft. Two of the players on the roster that we expected to compete for his role, Desmond Little and Zavier Carter, have decided to enter the transfer portal. So how do you build depth when your depth pieces transfer out? You do the exact same thing: take to the transfer portal. Oregon edge rusher Bradyn Swinson committed to the Tigers last month but most recently Texas edge Ovie Oghoufo also has pledged his commitment to the Tigers. Oghoufo came to Texas via Notre Dame where he played under Brian Kelly for three years. In two seasons at Texas, Oghoufo tallied 21 starts and honorable mention Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year honors in his first season with the Longhorns.
Plus, Matt McMahon and the Tigers on the hardwood got their butts kicked Saturday falling 106-66 to the Crimson Tide. LSU basketball has now lost four consecutive games, all to SEC opponents. So what is next for McMahon in his first year with the Tigers? The schedule doesn't get any easier as they take on Auburn, Tennessee, and Arkansas over the next couple of weeks. Can McMahon get this team refocused, re-energized, and motivated to turn things around midseason?
Finally, LSU women's basketball legend Seimone Augustus received the greatest honor of any LSU women's athlete as a statue was erected in her honor outside of the basketball practice facility. Her statue now stands beside other legends like Shaquille O'Neill and Pete Maravich, where she belongs as an LSU legend herself. Kim Mulkey and the LSU women's basketball team is undefeated and a top five team in the country.
