"The Return - Joining Forces," X-Men (Marvel Anime)

Ryan and Maddy start their tour through the Marvel Anime series, beginning with X-Men. The pilot episode starts right in the middle of the action, with Jean Grey having just transformed into the Dark Phoenix (no thanks to the Hellfire Club's influence). She explodes into fire and seems to be lost forever, after which Scott spends the next year of his life living in a junkyard refusing to bathe. That's right, a full year! Meanwhile, the rest of the X-Men -- Beast, Storm, and Wolverine -- heed the call from Professor Xavier to return to the mansion and investigate the disappearance of a young mutant girl in Japan. Decade-old anime storytelling tropes are on full display here, as well as some of our favorite Japanese horror tropes. This show is already a fun ride!
