LeBron James, Anthony Davis to Miss Tonight's Game vs. Nets, Myles Turner Signs an Extension in Indiana
The Lakers were still stinging Sunday from the happenings at the end of Saturday's loss in Boston, and the egregious non-call on a last-second layup attempt from LeBron James, in which he was obviously fouled. But the refs missed it. They acknowledged that they missed it after the game, and even sent out another apology on the official NBA Officials Twitter Feed (who knew?) on Sunday, noting how torn up about it they were.
Boo frickin' hoo. What do the Lakers do with this information?
Even if it's not malicious, and nobody on this show suggests it is (the default conspiracy position in the NBA is to put LeBron and the Lakers into the playoffs, not keep them out), it's still very damaging. There is a massive difference between being two games under .500 and four. Especially because Monday in Brooklyn, the Lakers will sit both LeBron and Anthony Davis for maintenance purposes, with the idea of keeping them healthy for the stretch run.
Gotta do what you gotta do, but it would have been a lot easier to roll with the subs (who did, it should be noted, steal a game at home vs. Miami when both stars sat) having a win in the first game of the trip. It underscores just how hard a task the Lakers have in front of them, trying to dig out of the 2-10 hole they put themselves in. It's hard enough to recover from the self-inflicted wounds without taking shots from supposed non-combatants.
And speaking of self-inflicted wounds, many are looking at Darvin Ham himself as a source of them. Including some of his choices against the Celtics on Sunday, from not fouling up three with 14 seconds to play, allowing the much-maligned three-guard combo of Westbrook/Beverley/Schroder to play together (albeit in very short minutes) and most prominently, putting Westbrook back in the game with three minutes left in the OT.
Let's discuss!
Finally, Myles Turner has signed an extension with the Indiana Pacers that doesn't totally preclude the possibility of him being traded at the deadline, but makes it really, really unlikely. So did the Lakers miss the boat by not pulling the trigger on a deal before the season started? And what's the moral of the story, here?
