In 1981 in Scottsdale, Arizona, a man named Steven Steinberg was accused of killing his wife, Elana Steinberg. While at first, Steven attempted to blame her murder (she was stabbed 26 times with a kitchen knife,) on two bushy-bearded robbers, he soon gave up that ghost and admitted to killing her. But there was one caveat to his guilty plea: he claimed he was sleepwalking when he killed her. Her nagging, sex-withholding, social-climbing and greedy personality had led Steinberg to so much stress, and become so bitter toward his wife, that in his sleep, he killed her. A jury would have to decide his fate.
Years later, on January 16, 1997, in nearby Phoenix, Arizona, a devout Mormon, husband and father named Scott Falater, had dinner with his wife and kids, attempted to fix the family's pool filter, and then, exhausted, fell into a deep sleep around 10 pm. Less than one hour later, his wife, Yarmila Falater, would be dead, stabbed over 40 times and drowned in the pool at the hands of her husband while their children slept. Scott Falater also pleaded guilty to the crime, but claimed he had absolutely no recollection of it. He had viciously murdered his loving wife...while sleeping.
