LSU launches Bayou Traditions: the schools first NIL collective
LSU announced Monday the birth of the schools first official collective, known as Bayou Traditions. Bayou Traditions will be a public facing collective in which anyone can donate at any time, any amount they would like to contribute to the name, image, and likeness deals for LSU athletes.
LSU is behind in these efforts. Schools across the SEC and even across college football have had collectives in place since NIL became legal almost two years ago. These collectives make it organized and uniform to raise money for NIL efforts and opens up the world of NIL to fans. So Bayou Traditions will operate differently than Geaux Enterprises, a private collective that has been in place at LSU in which a small group of wealthy donors contributed large amounts of money, because now anybody can contribute, not just a small group of donors. Also, monthly payments as low as ten dollars a month are accepted by the new collective.
Athletic Director Scott Woodward took to social media and said, “Just as Tiger fans’ philanthropic support of TAF continues to provide student-athletes with a world class experience, their additional support of Bayou Traditions will help us empower our student-athletes to build their brands, support their families, and give back to their communities.”
So why is Bayou Traditions important to LSU? What are some questions or concerns the LSU community may, and should have? What is the future of NILSU and how does Bayou Traditions work to close the gap between LSU and the rest of college football that has made collectives a priority for over a year now?
