LSU Tigers Ali Gaye and Jay Ward improve NFL Draft stock at Senior Bowl
Some of the top seniors in college football gathered in Mobile, Alabama last week to show off their talents and skills to NFL coaches and general managers at the Senior Bowl. Two of those players were LSU Tigers DL Ali Gaye and S Jay Ward. In the Senior Bowl, Ali Gaye sacked Fresno State QB Jake Haener for a loss of nine yards and Ward had four tackles. But the most important impressions made on prospective NFL front office members is made throughout practices and drills during the week. How has Gaye and Ward's draft stock shifted since this past week? Where can we expect two NFLSU hopefuls to go in the NFL Draft?
Plus, an article in The Athletic highlighted a study that showed between 2017-2020, more than 70 percent of the top 50 quarterbacks in high school transferred away from the school in which they originally committed. For quarterbacks who didn't start in either year one or year two, that rate increased exponentially. So what does that mean for LSU, both with the quarterback room currently in place and for the quarterbacks of the future? Are these changes and trends in college football avoidable, or are coaches now just forced to adapt?
Finally, Matt McMahon and the LSU basketball team have now reached double-digits in consecutive losses as they dropped their tenth game in a row against Alabama, falling 79-69 on Saturday. Do LSU basketball fans have any hope remaining for this season? If not for this season, what kind of hope remains for the future of the McMahon era?
