Movement as Medicine to Come Back to Me with Jacqui Toohey
Jacqui Toohey is a Women's Health & Fitness Coach. She helps women unravel the messy of mid-life, understand what's going on, and learn how to use movement, exercise, and lifestyle strategies to live a full and fabulous second half of life. Her passion for fitness has been lifelong, and seeing her Mum battle with Alzheimer's and osteoporosis which are both conditions which can be heavily influenced by lifestyle factors has given her the drive to educate and empower women to make a huge impact on their own health and longevity.
- Jac's journey collecting breadcrumbs in earlier life, including professional qualifications, time in hospital rehab settings, experience in Sports Management and training clients 1:1 and in small groups alongside her own lived experience of perimenopause, which have all culminated in the deeper clarity and expression of her Calling to help women make sense of their own messy middles
- Her fown Mum's health journey with conditions including osteoporosis and Alzheimer's which can be greatly influenced by lifestyle factors in earlier life and Jac's reflections on being part of leading change in understanding and awareness around how to future proof our health
- Jac's own love of movement and exercise as medicine and as a way to come back to her self and how the identity of Jac the runner helped to allow her some space and grace in those early kid-wrangling years when she could easily have been "just" Jac the Mum and Jac the wife
- How our level of understanding around perimenopause is the "last P" cycle of life standing - we have come so long in our understanding of our own needs through Puberty, Pregnancy and PostPartum - now it's time to break down the perimenopause barrier for future generations so they're not ignorant or blindsided by peri peri symptoms showing up
- How Jac's own experience with brain fog could easily have been feared and misinterpreted as the beginning of Alzheimer's rather than one of the common symptoms of perimenopause which for most of uf decrease with Menopause the years beyond
- Jac and my deep love of strength training, a BS busting chat around a fear of "bulking up" still held by some women and the huge array of physical, mental and self esteem benefits of strength training at all ages, and particularly in midlife and beyond
- how Jac's experience of perimenopause occurred at the same time as deep introspection and understanding and the beginning of a process to set herself wild and free from the patterns of staying small and safe, good girl, people pleasing and doing the "sensible, responsible" thing
