Episode 104: Formula 1 engines to Subaru engines with Micah from 3MI Racing
There are not many links between a Formula 1 engine and a Subaru Turbo engine. In fact, the only link may in fact be our guest on the Podcast today, Micah McMahan. Micah is the founder of 3MI Racing, and has a long history of working with Subaru EJ Turbo engines. But he has also worked at Roush Yates Engines on the Ford GT engine that raced at Lemans, and most recently, he worked at Red Bull Powertrains designing the next generation of Formula 1 engine.
We talk about the process of developing a racing engine from scratch, and about how you can change or modify an existing engine to improve both its power and performance. We also talk about Subaru engines, why Subaru has stuck with the boxer engine for so long, and what some common ways are to improve an EJ257's reliability. We also talk about how some of the cutting edge technology in current racing engines may trickle down into the engines that we will see in street cars.
