E261: Teaching Financial Literacy to Young People with Dan Sheeks
As a parent or an educator, one of the best things you can do is to equip the kids with a roadmap to earlier financial independence. In this conversation, Erik Cabral speaks with Dan Sheeks, about his passion for helping Gen Z or Zoomers live their best lives. A high school business and marketing teacher in Denver, Colorado for 18 years, Dan is the founder of SheeksFreaks LLC where he teaches teenagers early financial freedom strategies.
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:
Episode Highlights:
[10:36] The Systemic Challenge
Having a one-semester health class is a requirement for high school graduation. It should be because we make health decisions every day. We also make money decisions every day – how come personal finance is not a requirement in schools?
[20:05] Early Financial Freedom
If you want to work till you're 65, that's great. But it's nice to have the option of not having to do that. Work can make you happy. But having the option to spend the time doing what you want when you want is true freedom.
