Today we talk about Bravery and Freedom.
Albert Camus said “The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion.”
There was a time I was totally free and had enormous amounts of bravery. But once I fell into the spiral of addiction, the liberty I previously enjoyed and acts of heroism I once displayed, began to diminish rapidly.
Then I ended up in 12-Step recovery and found people bravely walk through their fears, cleaning up their pasts, and reclaiming their freedom. So I too, walked through my fears and reluctantly did all the unity, recovery and service everybody else was doing.
Sure enough, like those before me, I was able to reclaim some of the courage and independence that had eluded me for so long in my addiction. I also found a way of life that worked, no matter how much fear I had, or how restricted I felt.
All these years later, what began with the smallest amount of courage, has turned into unlimited amounts of freedom. and unexpected bravery.
Wherever you are, no matter how much fear you may have, or whatever may be holding you back, all you need is the smallest amount of bravery to get started on your path to freedom.
So don't give up!
Today we close with a brief meditation on patience, tolerance, kindliness and love.
