Cush fathered Nimrod; he was the first on earth to be a mighty man. He was a mighty hunter before the LORD. Therefore it is said, “Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before the LORD.” Genesis 10:8-9
We typically use Nimrod as an insult. However, Nimrod was the first “mighty man” in history. He might even have been considered almost a superhero by his neighbors.
As the first “mighty man,” he had the influence to build the first empire in the world. As Cain built the first city, Nimrod built several cities and united them under his governance.
With all these things, Nimrod ought to be a compliment. However, Nimrod is probably one of the first people to see what happens when you have power. Power allows us to focus on ourselves and our own needs and desires. We often forget to focus on other’s needs and desires and how we can fulfill them. A true “mighty man” in the Scriptures looks to help others in their time of need. Amen.
