Let’s talk about how to stop compulsive eating for a moment…
But first, a couple of questions:
If your mind is always thinking about food, then you ask yourself, “Am I a compulsive eater?”
Does food always consume your mind?
If your answer to this question is either a confident yes or an unsure “yes,” you do have compulsive eating symptoms that need to be addressed.
But let me tell it to you straight:
Stopping compulsive eating is a bit of a challenge, and many people have struggled with breaking free from compulsive eating only to find themselves going on relapses.
They fail to stop compulsive binge eating because they are not doing it the right way.
To address turning to food once and for all, it is essential to start with getting down to the honest truth about an obsessive-compulsive eating disorder.
What is compulsive eating and how do you know you are suffering from it?
We all know that we need food to survive and to thrive.
And naturally, you eat when you are hungry and also to nourish your body. You eat nutritious food to achieve excellent health.
But for people who have an obsessive-compulsive eating disorder, it works differently for them…
Food is not only to satisfy hunger but it has several other functions for their physical and psychological health.
When you eat without hunger, food is a drug.
If you’re grappling with anxiety, sadness, anger, etc, do you hold on to food for comfort?
If it’s a YES, then you need to acknowledge the presence of compulsive overeating within you.
How to Stop Compulsive Eating?
To change, it must occur at an unseen level first.
You need to have an understanding, a self-inquiry, a self-awareness.
And you need to be willing to be open with yourself. You have to be really honest with your relationship with food and stare at the problem straight on the face instead of denying and saying nothing’s wrong.
If you want to know how to control compulsive eating and actually solve this problem, you need to admit to yourself that there IS a problem to be solved. Then you take the steps toward breaking free from compulsive eating.
You see, eating without being satisfied and eating without being hungry and dulling your sense by overeating, that’s when the problem occurs.
When you believe in yourself more than in food, you will stop using food to not fall apart.
When the shape of your body no longer matches the shape of your beliefs, the weight disappears.
Change your thoughts to not be so focused on how you look like - how big you are, how small you are.
Instead, focus on what God wants for you…. Right at this very moment!
The only thing that will break compulsive eating is the truth:
The truth about who you are, who you are in Christ, who you are created to be, and the truth that God has a plan for you that’s unique to you… And that God is the only one who can fulfill this plan.
When you stop struggling, manipulating, controlling things, and when you start relaxing and seeing the truth, then God is able to work in your life.
You are lovely and believe in that!
You are created in God’s image, and you do not need drugs to take yourself away from the fact that God loves you.
Love yourself enough that you will stop hurting yourself with food.
Know the truth, acknowledge it, and believe in your capability to walk towards freedom from compulsive eating with God’s strength and love flowing in your heart and mind.
Listen to your inner voice and believe that God is helping you.
