Society & Culture:Relationships
121. Exploring the "Richness" of the Mother-In-Law Relationship
Mothers-in-law have a bad reputation.
This episode is an invitation to change that.
Mother-in-law relationships are charged because there is so much love all around.
They love their son or daughter and you love their son or daughter.
Choosing an intention for this relationship is a powerful practice.
You can choose to show up deliberately with love, kindness, neutrality, connection, or openness for example.
You can also choose to focus on what is in your control - how you show up and how you respond.
That's it.
Loving amusement is of course helpful.
As is remembering that others are doing the best they can.
Noticing, letting go of expectations, and having fierce and tender boundaries- are also helpful.
And loads of mindfulness, compassion, and love all around.
What kind of mother-in-law do you want to be? (Or mother, sister, daughter, daughter-in-law...
What would peace do?
What would love do?
Mindful coaching is the answer to finding ease with both mothers and mothers-in-law. Do it over time on zoom or do it in person intensively at a coaching, yoga, and culinary medicine retreat. Either helps a ton! The important thing - do it.
Life is too short and in-law relationships are too important to struggle about the struggle.
