African Americans, like Native Americans, are the only ethnic and cultural groups that did not come to British North America or the United States of America in eager pursuit of the American Dream. Is it coincidental that these are the only two such groups that do not follow the typical pattern of generational immigrant assimilation into the mainstream of American society? Given all of this, what can save people so mightily plagued by persistent poverty?
