This morning we highlight International Aguna Day (which falls this year on Monday, March 6, 2023) and focus on preventing and solving the terrible problem of those who refuse to cooperate in a Gett (Jewish divorce) when their marriage is objectively over, thus anchoring (translation of Aguna) someone to a loveless marriage and preventing them from moving forward or remarrying - which is domestic abuse, and often extortion, and a terrible sin. I share the lesson I learned from a poignant incident early in my career, and we trace the harm done by unscrupulous rabbis (yes, sadly they exist), and complicit relatives as recognized by the Israeli Chief Rabbis.
