Two Southside families trace their roots back to Chicago’s earliest days

You’ve never heard of the Madison’s and the Bernstein’s, but these are two of historic Chicago families — and in big and small ways, they have left their mark on this city. They have been here for generations and generations, and continue to consider themselves, first and foremost, Chicagoans.
