If not, it's time to figure out what you want and set goals to get there. I had the opportunity to sit down with longtime Academy member Pam Hook to talk about the goals she has for her life and business. Here's a hint: One always affects the other. Then, we'll grab a pen and some paper to journal through what this looks like in our own lives and businesses. Are You Chasing the Wrong Goals in Your Life? One of the most common questions I get is about goal setting: How do I know what goals to set? We get ideas in our head about how we want to grow or what we want to learn, so we set a goal. But here's the problem: It might be a goal that's great for someone else, but it doesn't mean it's the right goal for you. If you want to know where to get direction for your goals, you need to start by answering one simple question: What do you want? Your answer to this question will determine your goals. When you start to visualize where you want to be and what you want your life to look like, that informs the goals you set to get there. Here's the truth: If you don't define your finish line, you'll never cross it. If you don't take the time to set goals for your life, you'll end up living your entire life pursuing someone else's version of success. Stop Focusing on Things That Don't Matter I'm so excited because Pam Hook, one of our longtime Business Boutique Academy members, is joining me on the show today to talk about goal setting. Pam and I got to sit knee to knee and dig into her goals. At the end of the session, Pam was able to go home with more clarity on the next right steps for her life and her small business. Here are a few takeaways that might resonate with you too: Your business goals and spiritual goals aren't separate goals. One always affects the other. You can do anything, but you can't do everything. You have to say no to some things in order to say yes to the right things. Can You Answer This Difficult Question? Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. -Psalm 37:4 (ESV) What's so beautiful about this verse is that it reminds us that as we seek Him, get to know Him, and lean into Him, He will show us what the desires of our hearts are. He will open your eyes to things you didn't even know you wanted, to goals you didn't even consider, and to dreams that never crossed your mind before. He will do that because He loves you, and He has good plans for you. As we look to God, seek Him, and stay connected to Him, He shows us more of who we are and who He called us to be. He shows us the life He created us to live and the plans that He has for us. Remember: It's not on your shoulders to have it all figured out. Take some time to write down your answers to these questions as you process and put this into practice: How do you feel about what you want? Is it hard or easy to answer the question: What do you want? How does it feel to consider that God cares about what you want? What do you want? Write down the things that come to mind, the dreams that swell up in your heart, and the ideas in your head.
