It's rare that I get to speak to anyone with 54 years of experience but particularly rare when that person is a change leader - one of the first directors of transformation as far as I can tell. Rose Fass founded a company FassForward with Gavin McMahon McMahon 2 decades ago. We've never spoken but I got to know Gavin on LinkedIn last year (I was the first person to tell him about being featured by LinkedIn News - now that's a regular thing for him).
Rose released a new book called The Leadership Conversation and you know what image is on the cover? Janus. Remember what my podcast was originally called?
The Janus Oasis. Even our colour schemes are similar. My main colour is hot pink but turquoise is the secondary colour.
So even though I almost never interview someone I don't know, I decided that Rose and I would be able to handle it. I pride myself on my conversation skills after all. We are both wired to find common ground - it's fascinating how we were able to find so much in common in a short conversation.
There’s also a fun sidebar when Rose asks me about my hair. She was so thrilled with the stories she had to tell her assistant the story:)
We talk about leadership, politics, reframing conversations. And stories! Stories galore. Gavin often quotes Jonathan Gottschall: "A story is a trick for sneaking information into the fortified citadel of the human mind."
Listen to the end. Rose has fascinating insight into hybrid/remote strategy and what it's going to take to get resistant senior leaders on board. I love her specific examples.
The episode was so fun I don’t want to hold it for a week until the rest are complete.
