003: 3.10.23 - Interview with Monet Johnson from New Virginia Majority on organizing for public safety in Norfolk
In this special episode of the Norfolk Currents Podcast, Erin and Paul interview Monet Johnson, Lead Organizer for New Virginia Authority, whose focus is on housing and environmental Justice. Recently the New Virginia Authority has fought the displacement of residents of public housing at St. Paul’s and coal dust pollution from trains in Lambert’s Point. On March 8th, The Virginian Pilot published a story about building safety in public housing communities and how more surveillance isn’t the answer. In this conversation, we discuss the article and other local initiatives.
