Hope Always Surprises - New York Encounter 2021
Is it reasonable to hope when we look back at 2020, with all its hardships, uncertainty, injustice, divisions? Yes, if we recognize that the radical neediness we experienced revealed an expectancy, which expresses itself as the desire to keep walking. Even in the worst suffering, even in deepest pain, something in us looks forward. Deep inside us, there is inscribed the promise of a better future. Fr. Giussani once said, “Reality, as it emerges in experience, is so positive that it presents itself as inexorably appealing. Instead of appealing, we might use another word … promising.” Speakers in our last event share stories of new beginnings.
