LSU special teams will improve under new STC John Jancek. Why? Because it can't get much worse

LSU muffed two punts, had a field goal and an extra point blocked in Brian Kelly's inaugural game as LSU's head football coach. That was just a preview of what was to come for the Tigers' special team unit for the rest of the season.

Special teams coordinator Brian Polian moved to an off the field position where he will serve as an NFL general manager-esque type of position for LSU football. He will focus on recruiting, NIL deals, etc. while former defensive consultant John Jancek will fill in as special teams coordinator and JACK linebacker coach. Jancek has a careers worth of experience coaching linebackers and coordinating defenses, so his expertise will be valuable as LSU attempts to replace BJ Ojulari in the pass rusher role. But Jancek has no official special teams experience so how can we expect special teams to be better? Well, maybe because it can't get much worse.

What went wrong with Polian's unit last season? Did LSU football find the missing pieces, both as players and coaches, to ensure special teams won't give away opportunities at such an alarming rate in Kelly's second year?
