Find comfort in caregiving by cultivating a nurturing environment. Foster open communication by learning the unique ways people with dementia communicate. Offer empathy and understanding by always remembering they have a disease. Prioritize self-care to maintain emotional well-being, ensuring you have the resilience to support others. Create a harmonious space where both the caregiver and recipient feel heard and valued. Embrace the journey with patience, compassion, and a commitment to mutual growth. In the delicate dance of caregiving, finding comfort is a shared experience that blossoms through genuine connection and mindful presence. These are just a few of the ways you can find comfort in caregiving.
About Our Guest
Joining me on the show this week is Debbie DeMoss Compton. Debbie is a Certified Caregiving Consultant & Advocate/Speaker/Author/Caregiver. She was traveling coast to coast in upper-middle management. Life was good - until it wasn't. It's not fun to be on the coast and get a call that your mom has passed out in OKC and is on the way to the hospital. Also, not fun is being on the opposite coast and finding out your Dad has taken your mom's pills by mistake and is nearly comatose.
Add to that a mother-in-law experiencing more and more memory issues, and my friends, you are set up for an ulcer.
Life intervened, and she became a full-time caregiver. She never wanted to be a caregiver, but no one asked her opinion. Who can relate to that story?
This episode is a replay of our LinkedIn Live broadcast from June 2022. Debbie has so much practical information I decided to put the recording out as a regular podcast episode!
