Episode 21: Sustainable battery metals refinery
Dr Stephen Grocott is the Managing Director and CEO of Queensland Pacific Metals (ASX code: QPM), a company focused on developing a battery materials project to produce nickel and cobalt chemicals for use in electric vehicle batteries. Stephen is an accomplished executive in the mining and mineral processing sector with nearly 40 years of international experience. QPM is focused on the TECH project which aims to produce high-purity nickel and cobalt sulphate, which are key ingredients for the production of lithium-ion batteries. The Townsville Energy Chemical Hub (TECH) project will use a hydrometallurgical process to extract nickel and cobalt from laterite ore. The project has the potential to produce up to 25,000 tonnes per annum of nickel and up to 3,000 tonnes per annum of cobalt sulphate.
