Maundy Thursday is the Christian holy day that commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with his apostles before His crucifixion. It is a day of reflection and humility, as we remember Jesus washing the feet of His disciples as a symbol of service and love.
One of the most powerful lessons we can take from Maundy Thursday is the idea of selflessness. Jesus’ act of washing his disciples’ feet was a profound example of humility and love. He didn’t seek power or recognition; instead, our Savior served His followers with grace and compassion.
In John 13:34–35, Jesus commands His disciples to love one another: “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
This message of love and service is just as relevant today as it was two thousand years ago. We live in a world that often values power and wealth over kindness and compassion. But we can all learn from Jesus’ example, and strive to serve others with love and humility.
Let’s pray.
Heavenly Father, as we reflect on the events of Maundy Thursday, we ask for your guidance and strength. Help us to be selfless in our interactions with others, and to love one another as Jesus loved us. May we always remember the lessons of this holy day, and strive to live out your teachings in our daily lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.
