On this week's episode of True Crime New England, Katie and Liz share a tragic and mysterious tale of two friends who made a poor decision that ultimately led to a scary ending. In May of 2018, friends Spencer Mugford and Sofia Mckenna took off on a mastless sailboat they got from The University of Connecticut Avery Point campus in order to venture out to the New London Ledge Lighthouse. Their journey, as evidenced by Snapchat photos, occurred at roughly 2am. When neither of the pair showed up the next day for their pre-scheduled events, everyone became worried and a large search ensued. Unfortunately, Spencer's body was recovered just two weeks later, and even more unfortunate, Sofia's body has never been found. This leads to a lot of unanswered questions for both their families and also the community- what happened that night? Anyone with any information on the disappearance of Sofia McKenna is asked to please call the Connecticut State Police at (860) 848-6500.
